The LIHEAP Winter Crisis Component will begin on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, and end on Friday, March 27th, 2026, or whenever funds are depleted, whichever comes first.  You may make an appointment beginning Monday, December 29th, 2025, by going to our website at danielboonecaa.org or by calling (606) 729-4000.

When making an appointment, please make sure you enter your account number and complete all steps in order to obtain a confirmation number.

Scheduler Notes

You MUST have an appointment to be seen. If you arrive late for your appointment, you will have to reschedule.

Before your appointment, either upload your documents in advance or bring them with you.  Please note, after reviewing your documents we may request additional information to complete your application.

Applicants must be Clay, Jackson, Laurel or Rockcastle County residents with a household income at or below 150% of the federal poverty guidelines. Eligibility for the program is subject to program calendars, fund availability, appointment availability, verifiable household income, and family size.

 

List of Documents to Provide

Failure to provide all required documentation will delay your assistance. 

For the LIHEAP Winter Crisis Component, the following documents are required:

  1. Crisis eligibility requirements based on your heating source:
    (You MUST meet the requirement for your heating source listed below by the time of your appointment to qualify)
    *NOTE 1: If utilities are included in your rent, you do not qualify for the Crisis program unless you have a legal eviction notice.
    *NOTE 2: If you are applying for wood, coal, propane, kerosene, or fuel oil, we still NEED your most recent electric bill or account number.
    • Electric (Conventional): Past-due or Disconnect Notice
    • Electric (Pre-pay): 10 days or less of pre-paid electric remaining
    • Natural Gas: Past-due or Final Notice
    • Propane (Deliverable): Propane Tank at 20% or less (bringing a 20% or less propane statement from the propane company is recommended for faster service)
    • Propane (Pick-up) / Kerosene: No requirement for the FIRST assistance, but after the first visit you must bring a zero-balance receipt each time to show you picked up your benefit
    • Coal / Wood: No requirements
  2. Most recent Electric Bill (Must include your name, service address, and account number)
    • If you are a Jackson Energy Cooperative OR Kentucky Utilities customer, please provide your account number and we will obtain a copy of your most recent bill for you. You do not need to request a copy of the bill from them.
    • If the electric bill is not in the applicant's name:
      • It must be verified by a statement from the account holder, and
      • Must be verified with an ID with the current address or an unopened piece of mail to the current address
  3. Social Security card(s) or official documentation with social security numbers (or a permanent Resident/Green Card) for everyone living in the household.
  4. Proof of Household Income (Previous Month):
    • Employment Income: All pay stubs from the calendar month before your appointment showing pay dates and gross income
      (If you did not receive a check every week, verification is required showing you did not receive the maximum number of checks from your employer.) 
    • SSI / Social Security: Current SSI/Social Security Award letter
    • Unemployment: Unemployment Check Stubs
    • No Income: Current SNAP Benefit Letter


* Examples of items which cannot be accepted are previous LIHEAP applications, bank statements, copies of benefit checks, and 1099 tax forms. We cannot accept Medical Coverage Letters as proof of other income.

Additional Notes

Within minutes of making your appointment, you should receive a confirmation email with a calendar appointment attached to the email. In addition, you will also receive a text reminder the day before your appointment.  Please make sure you received a confirmation number.
